Galena Property Services and workshops

Galena Property Services (Galena) specializing in Business Continuity Planning was a speaker at the Washoe County REOC workshop for private businesses in Carson City, Nevada on October 4 and 5, 2011. Galena had a presentation on Alternate Work Locations for government and private organizations to give them training on what to look for and needs when determining relocation of their business. As we have learned this past year natural disasters happen without notice, the Japan tsunami, Joplin tornado and others. Very few business are able to continue to operate after and emergency because the lack of an alternate work location. This isn’t just IT, it is where are your employees going to go to work AFTER the disaster. Many private and government businesses attended the two day workshop and all left with an appreciation of not having an alternate work location can be a monetary disaster to their business.

Galena Property Services has completed Alternate Work locations (in case of an emergency or disaster) for ALL Washoe County Departments (30). This process included meeting with the heads of all departments to determine the “best” location to relocate their operations in case their building is damaged or destroyed. Key for relocation was to determine the best “fit” for each department such as cash counters for treasurer’s department will relocate to Water Resources as they have cash counters and public access.

HIPPA requires all health care organizations to be able to stay operational during any emergency and any disaster. They are required to have alternate facilites in place so that emergency care can continue seemlessly in event of a natural, manmade or any type of disaster or emergency. Is your health care facility ready? Most health care places do have some business continuity, that being safety and IT, however most lack the instructions of what to do immediately after an emergency. That is where Galena Property Services comes into place, we are the experts in the field of disaster planning and recover. We have successfully completed Business Continuation Plans for several departments within Washoe County in the State of Nevada and now have been contracted to provide assistance to complete the Washoe County District Health Department Continuity of Operations Plan. Through the Health Department we have also been contracted to develop a work shop for the health facilities with Washoe County. The workshop will be given during July of this year with the hopes of providing the necessary information for all health care facilities to take their Business Continuity Plans to completion.

Continuity of Operations Planning Complete

Gayle Sherman, Principal of Galena Property Services, specializing in Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) has now completed COOP for the Washoe County District Attorney’s Department as well as the county Treasurer’s office and the Washoe County Finance Department. The plans are actionable with alternate work locations. All employees have Grab and Go sheets that indicate what to do in any disaster or emergency. The COOP was well received by all departments.

Galena Property Services has also received a contract to review and complete the COOP for the Washoe County District Health Department. This contract started during March of this year and will be completed within the next three months.

Flying to New York City

I just flew to New York City to meet with a major customer who has an international business. They are greatly in need of Disaster Recovery planning and we had a very successful meeting that may result in 300 stores being specially prepared for any emergency.
